I am finally getting around to sharing some fall living room updates today. Remember when I painted one wall in my bedroom an army green? Well, before I did that, I tested the color out on our living room TV cabinet. I have been wanting to do something with with the cabinet (sand down and leave raw or white wash or paint) but I was not sold on anything. Until army green started creeping up all over my Pinterest feed.
Here is what the cabinet looked like before I painted it from my Christmas 2016 tour.
I love the cabinet with the glass doors but the wood just did not go or look right.
I lightly sanded the wood with some sand paper (first I used an 80 grit and then I used a 180 grit) and then wiped it down with a damp cloth to get all the dust off.
Then, I painted the cabinet with Cypress Vine by Behr (paint + primer). Two coats were necessary. Once that was dry, I sealed it with Polycrylic.
It definitely updated the cabinet!
I liked it so much I went ahead and used the paint on one of my bedroom walls.
But back to the living room. I built and installed this big floating shelf a few years ago and I like to change out the decor for the seasons. We do not have a fireplace or mantle down in this room so the floating shelf is my alternative to a mantle.
The antler study is a canvas print from Vol25 that I ordered recently.
I stapled it to an old frame I got at a local antique store. The windows I literally found on the side of the road on my way to work one day! It pays to have plenty of coffee in the morning so you can spot good quality junk and have the mind to stop!
The dried eucalyptus is from Hobby Lobby. I get a bunch every year. I know that Trader Joe’s usually has some seeded eucalyptus that is really pretty.
The rest of the room really didn’t change much since summer except for a few pillow covers and a small harvest sign.
Basket wall is still going strong.
Nothing wrong with keeping up some decor through multiple seasons. Sometimes I get myself all convinced I need to change up every wall for every season. Nobody got time for that.
I would LOVE to get some lighting changes in here soon. I am basically having a lighting crisis in here right now. That would be a good birthday present to myself next month;)
