I had big plans to flock my tree this year. It didn’t happen. Once I got it up, I could not possibly wait to flock it before I put the lights up. And I think I will actually get a new tree this year after the Christmas holiday. There are so many really cool artificial trees available. After having our current tree for 11 years, I think it is time for a new tree! So this will probably be the last year you will see this particular tree in our living room. I have a few updates in our living room to share as well. So let me show you our Christmas living room.
I am finally getting around to sharing some fall living room updates today. Remember when I painted one wall in my bedroom an army green? Well, before I did that, I tested the color out on our living room TV cabinet. I have been wanting to do something with with the cabinet (sand down and leave raw or white wash or paint) but I was not sold on anything. Until army green started creeping up all over my Pinterest feed.
I almost didn’t even blog this because I thought it probably seems like such an insignificant change. It may seem like a pretty small detail in the larger scheme of things to most people. However, after living in our house for almost 12 years, I have learned that sometimes it takes a lot of little changes to make your home “right” in your eyes. So every little change really is not insignificant as it is an important part of the whole. The coffee table update in our living room is one of these seemingly insignificant changes that I am going to share with you today.
Given how excited I was for December to start, you would think I would not have dropped the ball on moving Poppy the Elf 4 days in. I was so tired that night, I pretty much passed out right after we put the kids to bed. Usually I will double check in the morning to make sure Poppy was moved but I didn’t get to it that morning before my son said, “HEY, I wonder where Poppy is today?!?!” DUH! My son looked and saw that he was in the same place he was the previous day. You see, the previous day he took a fall off of the rocking horse he was on and I picked him up with one of those grabber/tong things, you know, so I would not suck his powers away with being touched by a human, and then placed him haphazardly on a chair. Which is where he remained the next day. My son said, “Well, I guess Poppy lost his powers.” I told him he probably was too injured to make the journey back to the North Pole that night and just needed to rest. Not sure if he bought it or not. Luckily, the next night Poppy got back to the North Pole for his arm sling and leg cast;) Since then, the sling has been removed but he continues to be in a leg cast. What does this have to do with my Christmas living room reveal? You will see him in one of the pics and you will see his cast. Now you know the back story:)
I am obsessed with decorating with antlers, like a lot of other people these days. In my house, I have real antlers over my bed, on my mantle and on various shelves. I have fake ones scattered throughout the house as well. I have been seeing some other versions of antlers on Pinterest and blogs. In particular, I have seen some “natural antlers” by a company called Eco Deer. I LOVE the look and and all the options so I thought I could try my hand at some DIY natural antlers.
