DIY desk and shelving unit

DIY desk and shelf unit

August is upon us (how did that happen??) and it has me getting my home and kids geared up for fall and a new school year.  This means I am purging clothes, toys, books and re-organizing.  It also wanted to incorporate a desk area for my son, whom will be starting the 1st grade (WHAT?!?!)!  I wanted to create a small desk for homework and art in an underutilized area in his bedroom.  Originally, I was going to build a desk and shelving unit with wood and industrial metal pipe.  But I quickly realized that the cost and time required to implement my design would have been more than I was willing to commit.  So, not one to be discouraged, I thought up a new idea and design and got to work on creating his DIY desk and shelving unit.

Christmas Bedroom

christmas bedroom

No room is off limits for holiday decor at my house.  Holiday decor seeps into almost every space.  We don’t stop once the main living/dining areas are decked, we keep going until max saturation is achieved.  I especially love to add holiday cheer to our master bedroom.  I usually read for a bit before bed every night and it is so much more fun to do that with some festive twinkling lights nearby!  Here is what our Christmas bedroom looks like this year.

Girl room gallery wall

gallery wall

As you know from previous posts, I got rid of the crib in my daughter’s room and have been working to convert it to a toddler room.  You can see the inspiration board here.  I have been working on some other art projects for her room.  You and see these projects here and here.  In addition to those projects, I have painted the room, replaced the skinny oak trim with 1x4s painted white, painted the closet doors, set up the new twin bed, got new bedding and created a girl room gallery wall over the bed.
